Principals

Hi, I’m Sydney Wayman

I’m a consultant, entrepreneur, adjunct lecturer, radio host, and researcher. I study economic and business development, and wealth creation to uncover why some communities, entrepreneurs, and individuals prosper while others languish. I share what I learn with entrepreneurs and small business owners who engage me to help them deal with business issues.

And as part of my research clearly illustrates that by following the fundamental principles of wealth creation most people can achieve financial security, I’ve spent the past 15 years teaching the principles of wealth creation to folks looking to improve their lives. There’s much I still don’t know, but I know enough to help people build better lives and businesses. Want to hear more?

My Mission

At the core of my work is a simple, but extremely powerful question: How can urban communities become self-sustaining and self-enabling?

The first way I try to answer that question is by analyzing economic systems and breaking them into their component parts. What are the basic components required of a functioning economy? What forces support its growth? What roles do people play in determining how the benefits created by the economy are allocated and shared? What common misconceptions do we have about the way the economy works?

The second way I try to answer that question is to apply these insights to economic and business development, and personal financial management activities. What are the most effective ways for communities to build and/or sustain their local economy? How can we identify the hidden impediments to implementing and achieving the goal of building and sustaining a local economy? How can urban communities become the architects of the economies of their local communities, rather than the victim of them?

My ultimate goal is to answer a question that lies at the core of what it means for urban communities to achieve economic parity: is it possible for the U.S. economy to absorb the growth required to achieve that end? My hope is that—even if I can only answer this question in a modest way—my work will help promote the economic development of the urban community.

I feel very lucky to share my work with a wide range of people. I am especially thankful to all the entrepre-warriors I’ve met over the years who shared their trials and tribulations with me. Through their challenges and struggles, my perspective on business success has been greatly informed.

As a banker at a money-center bank in New York, I financed LBO’s of companies entrepreneurs were taking private or acquiring. You learn a lot about business analyzing and monitoring these highly leveraged transactions.

A few years later, at a much smaller bank in Harlem I financed entrepreneurs and small business owners just trying to survive. You learn even more about business offering life-lines to companies that started out under-capitalized. For many of them, despite achieving breakeven sales, survival was not guaranteed.

I’ve seen a lot and learned even more. If you’d like to share in my experiences, just enter your name and email address below to sign up for my free newsletter.
